We can help you focus on what you like about yourself and see things in a more balanced way, build self-esteem and self compassion, and understand and challenge harmful beauty standards so you can feel good about yourself as you are.
Body image therapy is aimed at targeting and improving negative perceptions and feelings you might have about your appearance. We can work on addressing root causes of body image distortions, which may include societal pressures, negative self talk, or past experiences affecting you in present day.
Body image therapy can be an add on to eating disorder therapy, or even if you don't have an eating disorder and are just struggling with body dissatisfaction, you can still benefit from body image therapy.
People with many different body types can struggle with body dissatisfaction. We can't assume someone in a larger body is unsatisfied with their body when that may not be true. We also can't assume someone in a smaller body is satisfied when they may not be. I use a body inclusive approach in body image work.
We can help you uncover some of the deeper things that are contributing to body dissatisfaction, whether it's life events, trauma, grief, or perfectionism. We can target some of those problems and help you feel more satisfied with how you look.
Do you find yourself fixating on one particular part of your body, and you feel like you can't stop? This is called body dysmorphia, which is when someone has an obsessive focus on perceived flaws or deficits in their appearance. We can help you catch the automatic thoughts you have when engaging in body checking, and reframe thoughts around your appearance, so you can leave the house without worrying about your body.
I'm here to help you feel more self confident and comfortable in your skin. I can provide you with a space to explore and challenge the negative thoughts and feelings you have about your body.
This includes societal pressures, trauma, and low self esteem. Using cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and self compassion, we can work on reframing body image distortions and help you develop a more positive self image.
This can make you feel more confident, promote self acceptance, and improve your overall well being.
Your body is not an object and deserves respect, from yourself and others. We can work on helping you set boundaries and assert yourself so you can live a life aligned with your values.
I provide a supportive environment where you can address and transform negative core beliefs you have about yourself. We can work on challenging and reframing these thoughts so you can see yourself differently and recognize that a thought really is just a thought.
This includes societal issues, negative self talk, or past experiences that are affecting you in present day. We can explore and process trauma and other major life events that might have contributed to your body image concerns, allowing you to move past it.
I work from a body inclusive lens, and welcome everyBODY to come to body image therapy if you feel you will benefit. We can explore personal and societal factors contributing to body image distortions, which can affect people in many different body types.
We can use DBT skills such as fact checking to increase self acceptance, making you feel more confident. We can give you coping skills to manage external pressures, overwhelming emotions, and triggers which can help you have a healthier, more positive relationship with yourself.
